Wake
Up, Get Ready, Book a Cab
The
morning rush was the same. Gaurav woke up, got ready half-heartedly, and booked
a cab. "Welcome to the office," he muttered to himself sarcastically.
A typical 9-to-5 job that didn’t excite him anymore. But what could he do?
Responsibilities demanded compliance.
By
the end of the day, Gaurav was drained, heading home in his cab. Tiredness
clung to him like a shadow, yet his thoughts wandered. "What if I could
hire someone to do my work?" he mused. He pictured someone taking over his
tasks, especially the tedious coding and report generation. But then reality
hit — his salary couldn’t afford such luxuries.
As
if to shake him out of his daydream, his iPhone rang. Avantika
Calling.
"Hi
Gaurav, I’ll be at your apartment in 10 minutes," she said, her voice
laced with excitement.
A
smile lit up his face. "Wow, Avi! What a surprise. I’ll be there in five
minutes!" he replied eagerly.
His
cab pulled up near his apartment. He spotted Avantika waiting at the gate, her
smile making his day instantly better. Gaurav jumped out of the car, ran to
her, hugged her from behind, and kissed her cheek. They locked eyes, lost in
the moment, when the frustrated Uber driver broke the spell.
“Bhaiya,
pehle payment kar dete,” the driver complained.
They
laughed it off, paid the fare, and went inside.
Together,
they cooked dinner, their laughter filling the kitchen. Gaurav felt alive, but
in the back of his mind, he couldn’t shake off the lingering thought of
unfinished tasks.
"Let’s
watch a movie, Gaurav?" Avantika suggested as they settled on the couch.
"Uh,
sorry, I was thinking about something," he said absently.
Avantika
leaned in closer, a mischievous look in her eyes. "What could possibly
distract you from me?" she teased.
Before
he could respond, his iPhone buzzed again. Rajat Calling.
"Hi,
sir," Gaurav said, his tone betraying his frustration.
"Gaurav,
about the latest project — the client wants the manual reporting in Excel
automated into Power BI. Can you brainstorm on this over the weekend?"
Gaurav
muttered curses under his breath but kept his voice steady. "Sure, Rajat.
I’ll think about it and let you know next week."
As
he hung up, Avantika noticed his expression. “What happened?”
"Nothing,
just work stuff," he replied, trying to shrug it off.
Discovering ChatGPT
Avantika
randomly put on the movie Her
— a 2013 romantic drama about a man falling for an operating system. Gaurav
half-watched, his mind still juggling work stress.
Meanwhile,
Avantika was texting someone on her phone. Curious, Gaurav asked, "What’s
that?"
"Oh,
nothing. My manager told me to use ChatGPT. I make mistakes in my emails, so I
write them here, and it fixes everything," she said casually.
"Is
it?" Gaurav’s suddenly sound interested . "I wish I could ask it to solve my
work problems."
"Why
don’t you try?" Avantika handed him her phone.
"Hi,
Chatty," he typed jokingly, "my manager is asking me to automate
manual reporting from Excel to Power BI."
The
response surprised him. It provided steps like:
Import
Excel data into Power BI.
Clean
the data using Power Query for duplicates
and errors.
Use
DAX queries like: SUM(Sales[Revenue])
to calculate total revenue, or CALCULATE(SUM(Sales[Profit]),
Sales[Region] = "West") for filtering
specific regions.
Create
visuals like bar charts or KPIs to highlight trends.
For
Gaurav, these were just words before. Now, they felt like solutions.
The Bathroom Revelation
Midway
through the movie, Gaurav excused himself, claiming he needed the bathroom.
Locking the door, he pulled out his phone and searched for ChatGPT.
Thirty
minutes passed. Avantika, annoyed by his absence, knocked on the door. "Gaurav,
what are you doing in there?"
"Just
a minute!" he yelled back, too engrossed in experimenting with DAX
functions like:
AVERAGE(Sales[UnitsSold]) to find average units
sold.
IF(Sales[Revenue] > 10000, "High", "Low") to create dynamic
labels.
When
he finally returned, Avantika was gone, leaving behind a message: "Next
time, prioritize me over your stupid things you were doing in Bathroom."
Gaurav
spent the rest of the weekend glued to his laptop, experimenting with ChatGPT.
By Sunday evening, he had a polished Power BI dashboard ready. It included:
A
sales summary using line charts.
Regional
comparisons using maps.
Automated
insights with filters and slicers
for drill-down reports.
For
the first time in months, he felt confident and ahead of schedule.
On
Monday, Gaurav presented the solution to his team without mentioning ChatGPT.
His colleagues were impressed.
"How
did you manage to do this over the weekend?" one of them asked.
"Just
brainstormed and worked hard," Gaurav said with a sly smile.
Quietly,
he kept ChatGPT as his secret weapon, using it to streamline his tasks and
excel at work. While his colleagues struggled, he thrived, delivering results
faster than ever.
Little did they know, the tool they dismissed as a grammar corrector was now Gaurav’s silent ally in his journey to outshine them all and make tasks very easy.
